AOPA is supporting one option in the Denali National Park and Preserve revised draft Backcountry Management Plan that is consistent with current regulations and would ensure continued general aviation access to the park. The plan would preserve GA operations and protect the natural quiet of the park. It also would create an overflights working group to develop voluntary guidelines to protect the park, a panel AOPA would volunteer to join. AOPA's support comes with a recommendation that the National Park Service not limit access to airspace and established landing areas in the park under a proposed natural sound disturbance standard. The association also pointed out that the National Park Service would benefit from incorporating information on the role GA plays in its visitor education program. Public comments on the plan are being accepted through July 15 and can be sent to Denali National Park and Preserve, P.O. Box 9, Denali Park, AK 99755.
