The comment deadline for the revised Denali Backcountry Management Plan has been extended from June 30 to July 15. The revised alternative appears to preserve access to airstrips inside Denali National Park, establish overflight workgroups, and permit voluntary registration to enter the area. However, AOPA is opposed to the planned use of noise restrictions to limit access to airspace or landing areas in the park. AOPA and Alaska pilots opposed the original plan because the National Park Service's preferred alternative banned general aviation aircraft from landing inside Old Park, a 1.5 million-acre portion of Denali National Park. AOPA staff is preparing comments on the changes.
