The Grantsburg Village Board is seeking public opinion on what to do with Grantsburg Municipal Airport. Board members are concerned that too few residents of the community are using the airport. AOPA Great Lakes Regional Representative Bill Blake has sent a letter to Board President Mark Dahlberg explaining that the airport "has a positive economic impact several times its cost to the village." Recounting his experience as former director of the Illinois Division of Aeronautics, Blake related how some small community airports chose instead to expand facilities rather than close, successfully attracting businesses to their communities to provide jobs for residents. The village board is expected to decide the future of the airport sometime in April.
