AOPA Regional Representative John Pfeifer told Contra Costa County, California, supervisors last week that continued studies to close Buchanan Field (CCR) were pointless.
"The current proposal clearly shows that replacing Buchanan Field is not feasible," Pfeifer said. "Now is the time to make a decision." Nevertheless, the supervisors voted to continue a developer-funded review of alternate airport sites through September.
The county is considering closing the airport to develop the property. But AOPA, members of Congress, and the FAA have made it very clear to the supervisors that there is practically no chance that the federal government will allow the airport to close.
