AOPA comments on new RNAV routes for Alaska
The FAA has proposed creating 47 new area navigation (RNAV) routes in Alaska, a move that AOPA believes would greatly enhance the safety and efficiency of the national airspace system. But some details need to be worked out first. Under two separate proposals, the FAA would create eight high-altitude Q-routes (for operations above 18,000 feet) and 39 low-altitude T-routes. In comments on the proposals submitted last week, AOPA contended that additional guidance and clarification on the operating equipment is needed, the aircrew and pilot qualifications need to be defined, and a coordinated pilot and controller education effort is necessary to fully support the implementation of these routes.
