AOPA represented strongly on Arizona aviation council
Arizona Gov. Janet Napolitano has named AOPA Western Regional Representative Stacy Howard to serve on the Governor's Advisory Council on Aviation. The council is charged with studying and issuing findings and recommendations addressing airspace utilization and airport capacity, land-use compatibility, and funding for aviation in Arizona.
Howard is one of 13 AOPA regional representatives. She's responsible for representing the interests of general aviation pilots before state and local governments in Arizona, Utah, and Nevada, a region that's home to some 19,000 AOPA members.
She learned to fly in Mesa and currently holds a private pilot certificate with an instrument rating and has more than 2,500 hours. Through her local chapter of The Ninety-Nines, Howard created and conducted fear of flying programs and flying companion seminars, and organized airshows, rallies, and other flying events. She has worked with local Girl Scout councils to conduct aviation badge programs; provided aerospace education to troops, schools, and summer camps; and helped create aviation scholarship opportunities for women.
Napolitano also named to the council AOPA member Barbara Harper. An active flight instructor and aviation advocate, Harper has served since 1998 as AOPA's Airport Support Network (ASN) volunteer at Ryan Field in Tucson.
