Hurricane Wilma slammed into Southern Florida's west coast as a full-bore Category 3 storm, defying some predictions that the hurricane would lose strength before its U.S. landfall. On Monday afternoon, some 2.2 million people are without power, and there are damage reports from airports in the Ft. Myers area and the Florida Keys.
"Our sympathies are with our neighbors to the south," said Paul Phillips, a spokesman for Tampa's Hillsborough Airport Authority. "Fortunately, our airports sustained only minimal damage and will be back to full operation long before AOPA Expo."
AOPA Expo 2005 opens November 3 in Tampa. "We look forward to AOPA members experiencing our great airports and hospitality," said Phillips.
