AOPA urges Alaska town not to restrict seaplane ops
AOPA is asking the city of Aleknagik, Alaska, to postpone action on a proposed ordinance that would prohibit seaplane operations in certain areas near the city. The ordinance also would levy fines against violators. AOPA wants the city to allow time for the aviation community to help find a solution. One idea is building a new seaplane docking facility to the west of the South Shore. The city is apparently looking for funding for the project. While AOPA understands the city's needs to ensure safety on waterways, the association said in a letter to the city that seaplane restrictions would hurt the local economy and affect the shipment of goods to the area.
