AOPA urges pilots to speak out against SoCal radio tower
The FAA has determined that rebuilding a radio tower in the traffic pattern of Fullerton Municipal Airport in Southern California is not a hazard to air navigation, despite two fatal accidents in which the aircraft hit the tower. A fatal accident in 2004 brought the tower down. The radio station that operates the tower applied to have it rebuilt. AOPA has been fighting the rebuilding and is calling on local pilots to get involved. The La Mirada Planning Commission will hear the application for the tower at 6:30 p.m. on December 21 in the council chambers. Pilots are encouraged to attend and convince the commission that this tower is a hazard and should not be rebuilt in the airport's traffic pattern.
