New Year's Eve calls for extra vigilance at airports

New Year's Eve calls for extra vigilance at airports

Members in the New York City area are reminded to be extra vigilant for suspicious activity during the New Year's Eve holiday. While the intelligence community says there is no specific or credible terrorist threat, the Office of Homeland Security and the Counter Terrorism Center have requested that jurisdictions having airports within a 150-mile radius of the city pay particular attention to general aviation and air cargo operations. To protect your privilege to fly, review the AOPA Airport Watch Program materials. If you do witness suspicious activity, call 866/GA-SECURE (427-3287). AOPA is anticipating flight restrictions over New York for the Times Square festivities. Make sure you check notams and see AOPA's temporary flight restriction (TFR) Web page before you fly.
