When the FAA works with airspace users to modify airspace, everyone wins. And such is the case with changes to Class B airspace around Lambert-St. Louis International Airport.
"The FAA and the local air traffic control facility incorporated the ad hoc user group's input to create a simple, efficient airspace design that suits all airspace users," said Heidi Williams, AOPA director of air traffic policy. "This is an example of airspace changes done right - and it is much more effective than the FAA trying to force complex changes on users without seeking their input."
The FAA on Wednesday published its final rule on the airspace changes, which reflects recommendations from airspace users: A combination of navigation aids and VFR landmarks will define the Class B boundary, and the ceiling will remain at 8,000 feet msl.
AOPA had recommended maintaining that ceiling limit. The changes are scheduled to go into effect April 13.
