First Arizona Aviation Day a success

First Arizona Aviation Day a success

The first annual Arizona Aviation Day was held on February 9 on the capitol lawn in Phoenix and was by all accounts a great success. With more than 200 attendees, including 20 to 30 legislators, Arizona's general aviation community demonstrated the benefits of GA to one of the nation's fastest growing states. Organized by a committee including AOPA's Western Regional Representative Stacy Howard, the event included presentations from Howard, the Arizona Airports Association, Honeywell, the National Business Aviation Association, Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, the Arizona Pilots Association, and Arizona State University. Gov. Janet Napolitano issued a proclamation declaring "Aviation Day in Arizona." Napolitano has been a strong supporter of aviation, having established in September 2004 the Governor's Advisory Council on Aviation.
