AOPA sticks up for two California airports

AOPA has expressed concern about development projects encroaching on two popular California airports. In Redlands, two residential developments, which would add 100 new homes, have been proposed near Redlands Municipal Airport. And in Stockton, a development known as Tidewater Crossing has been proposed right next to Stockton Municipal Airport. AOPA pointed out in letters to both cities that building homes and schools near airports is bad public policy, creating the potential for future noise and safety issues. Both airports are under federal grant obligations, which require assurances from local governments that the airports will be protected from incompatible land use. AOPA suggested that both cities pursue a more "airport friendly" approach.
