The fees aircraft owners pay to register their aircraft in Rhode Island would be used to support airport infrastructure at the state's GA airports if state legislators pass House Bill 6846. The bill would shift the collection of those fees from the state's tax administrator to the Rhode Island Aviation Corporation.
"Aircraft registration fees can be utilized more effectively and efficiently to directly support the state's community airports," said Owen Sweeney, AOPA manager of state and local government affairs, in a letter to the Finance Committee. "This would result in safer and better-managed airports and would ensure that fees collected from Rhode Island's pilots are used for aviation purposes."
