AOPA's surPRIZE Squad isn't letting the lucky winners off that easily. Charles Carroll, the AOPA watch winner, thought he was being tested on time conversion.
"We just moved into daylight-saving time," surPRIZE Squad patroller Kelvin Ampofo said, "so what is the conversion to Zulu?"
After Carroll pondered the question for a bit (and by the look on his face, he was trying to come up with a good excuse instead of the answer), Ampofo told him he wouldn't have to worry about the time conversion any more.
"What are you talking about?" Carroll asked.
"For wearing this [AOPA Day] sticker, we're going to give you this AOPA watch!"
Dave Goodkin of Boca Raton, Florida, won an AOPA mug. And it would go perfectly in what he hopes to win from AOPA early next year - the 2006 Win a Six in '06 Sweepstakes aircraft. Goodkin is a flying club member and flies a Cherokee Six.
"Well I'm planning on winning [the Cherokee Six]," Goodkin said. "Then I wouldn't have to be in the flying club."
The surPRIZE Squad hasn't given away the grand prize yet - the Garmin 396 handheld GPS - so stay tuned.
