AOPA fights possible closure of Oceanside airport

AOPA let city officials know that the association is strongly opposed to closing Oceanside Municipal Airport, and that AOPA will do whatever it deems necessary to ensure its continued viability. AOPA Vice President of Airports Bill Dunn was in Oceanside this week for a series of meetings with city officials. The city is conducting a study designed to identify other possible uses of the airport. Dunn met individually with the mayor and three members of the city council, reminding them that they are required to keep the airport open because they accepted federal airport development funds. Previously, U.S. Rep. Darryl Issa, who represents the Oceanside area, wrote to the FAA indicating his strong support for the airport's continued operation and encouraged the FAA to reject any request by the city to close the airport. Dunn also met with Oceanside AOPA Airport Support Network volunteer Alan Cruise and the Oceanside Airport Association's board of directors.
