Keeping aviation affordable is one of AOPA's top priorities. And while the association is fighting user fees at the national level, it also is working at the state level for its New York members. AOPA Northeastern Regional Representative Craig Dotlo discussed general aviation funding issues with key New York state legislators during the New York Aviation Management Association's Advocacy Day on March 7. "There are several promising actions that the state legislature could take to improve general aviation," Dotlo said. "AOPA will continue to support and help educate legislators working on measures that could affect general aviation." Dotlo talked with state officials about the passage of bills that would exempt the purchase of noncommercial service aircraft from New York state sales and use tax. Another topic was a budget proposal to fund a number of aviation projects in the state.
