AOPA works for GA tax break on aircraft, services

Want an exemption from sales and use taxes for aviation-related services, sales, and equipment? AOPA is supporting a bill in the Connecticut legislature that proposes to do just that. "This is an important issue for our members. Owning and maintaining an aircraft would be more affordable with the tax exemption," said Owen Sweeney, AOPA manager of state and local government affairs. "AOPA has explained to Connecticut lawmakers that, if they want their state to remain competitive, they must provide relief from aircraft sales, service, and property taxes." States that already have enacted such measures are experiencing an increase in aviation-related economic activity. AOPA Northeastern Regional Representative Craig Dotlo is working with fixed-base operators to provide key legislators with evidence that aviation businesses in Connecticut are losing customers to other states with more favorable tax structures.
