AOPA members reelected to key state positions

Govs. Sonny Perdue (R-Ga.) and Michael Rounds (R-S.D.), both AOPA members and avid general aviation supporters, were reelected last week. Perdue was honored in September with an AOPA Presidential Citation for his support of GA through the Airport Initiative in Rural Georgia (AIRGeorgia). The program's goal is to extend every rural airport runway to at least 5,000 feet and to ensure that every Georgian is within a 30-minute drive of an airport capable of serving GA corporate aircraft. In South Dakota, Rounds was instrumental in overturning a requirement in 2003 for a state-issued photo identification card. "AOPA is pleased to have these members in key leadership positions," said Greg Pecoraro, AOPA vice president of regional affairs. "Their work has considerably improved GA in Georgia and South Dakota."
