Protect GA tenants, AOPA tells airport authority
The FAA has approved the relocation of Panama City-Bay County International Airport to a site in western Bay County, Florida. The FAA and state favor relocating the airport, which floods during hurricanes. The airport management also claims that the current location lacks room for expansion - a major road would have to be relocated in order to do so. AOPA has told the airport authority that the airport serves the general aviation community well and that the GA pilots haven't asked for a new airport. "However, if a new airport is built, AOPA maintains that the existing tenants must be accommodated with equal or better facilities than what they have now," said Bill Dunn, AOPA vice president of airports. "And those facilities must be reasonably priced."
