Lemoore MOA to go active in February

Lemoore MOA to go active in February

Despite AOPA opposition, the new Lemoore Military Operations Area (MOA) in central California will become active on February 4, 2008. ( See a graphic.) The majority of the airspace will be charted on the August 30 edition of the San Francisco Sectional, with a small southern section published on the December 20 Los Angeles Sectional chart. Thanks to input from local pilots and AOPA, the MOA has been modified from the military's original proposal to mitigate some of the impacts on general aviation. AOPA has urged the FAA to increase its notification effort to local pilots. The agency has committed to send a letter to airmen regarding the new special-use airspace and a notice to fixed-base operators, requesting that they inform their customers. The FAA also said it would notify GA associations to alert their members.
