New SoCal GPS routes go in effect in August

Aircraft in the Los Angeles area will now be able to operate more efficiently thanks to new RNAV terminal transition routes (T routes). AOPA for years has been supporting the creation of these routes for IFR GPS-equipped aircraft operating in busy Class B and C airspace areas. The three Southern California routes, which overlap one another for most of their length, will be designated T-245, T-247, and T-249. They will allow transitions to and from the Seal Beach Vortac through to the Van Nuys area. The routes become effective on August 30. AOPA had filed formal comments in favor of the routes with some minor modifications. For more on T routes, see AOPA's issue brief.
