Developer's threat to Leesburg stopped for now

The Loudoun County Board of Supervisors put a stop to the proposed Crosstrail development that threatened Leesburg Executive Airport in Northern Virginia. After more than a year of debating, the board on July 17 denied a proposal to rezone the land around the airport for the Crosstrail development, which would have put 1,500 homes under the busy airport's traffic pattern. "AOPA, the Leesburg Airport Commission, the town of Leesburg, and local pilots have been opposing this plan for more than a year," said Bill Dunn, AOPA vice president of airports. "Local pilot involvement is critical to protect airports." After the vote, the mayor of Leesburg thanked the pilot community for its tremendous efforts on behalf of the airport.
