Military grants AOPA's request on MOA comment extension

Condor MOA

Heeding AOPA's concerns, the military has extended the comment period on proposed changes to the Condor military operations areas (MOAs) in western Maine.

The new comment deadline to provide input on the environmental analysis is May 14. AOPA was not notified when the Air National Guard released a draft environmental assessment.

Also, the military announced two public hearings, both of which are scheduled from 6 to 8 p.m. They take place on April 11 at Mountain Valley Middle School, 58 Highland Terrace, Mexico, Maine; and on April 12 at Moscow Elementary School, 125 Canada Road, Moscow, Maine.

The Air National Guard is proposing to modify the existing Condor 1 and 2 MOAs by combining the footprint of each into one large Condor High MOA from 7,000 to 18,000 feet msl. There would also be a low-altitude Condor Low from 500 feet agl to 6,999 feet msl, underlying the other MOA.
