Call it a recurrent boot camp. The AOPA Regional Representatives annual meeting at AOPA headquarters in Frederick, Maryland, trains and equips the representatives to better advocate for members' needs.
"These 12 individuals tirelessly serve AOPA members at the regional and state level, protecting general aviation pilots and airports," said Greg Pecoraro, AOPA vice president of regional affairs. "These sessions help them hone their skills and keep us all on the same page."
During a two-day workshop on June 6 and 7, the representatives got inside tips on how to catch and keep the attention of state legislators.
Maryland House of Delegates Majority Leader Kumar Barve gave the group an insider's advice on what to do and say when working with legislators to advance or kill measures that affect general aviation.
AOPA Director of Media Relations Chris Dancy trained the group on how to effectively communicate with the media.
