Privately owned, public-use Freeway Airport in Mitchellville, Maryland, isn't going anywhere. AOPA members contacted the association last weekend, expressing concern that Freeway Airport in Mitchellville, Maryland, had been sold to developers and would close. AOPA investigated those reports, and Freeway Airport Support Network volunteer Martha Ainsworth spoke directly with airport owner and manager Stanley Rodenhauser. "This recurring rumor needs to be put to rest for good. It's unfounded and not true," said Bill Dunn, AOPA vice president of airports. "Pilots should know that Stan has done a great thing for aviation by taking steps to protect the airport and ensure that it will operate in perpetuity."
