Sweeps airplane joins a flock of Cardinals
If you've had the opportunity to break in an engine, whether new or freshly overhauled, you know that running it at healthy cruise power settings is a must. So we took your 1977 Cessna Cardinal that we're refurbishing for this year's sweepstakes on a cross-country trip last week to Batavia, Ohio.
AOPA President Phil Boyer joined the airplane at the Cardinal Flyers Online Eastern Convention, hosted by Sporty's Pilot Shop. At the convention's banquet, Boyer related his experiences in the Cardinal nearly 40 years ago as a new private pilot. He also had the honor of eating Sporty's 150,000th hot dog. Sporty's Saturday cookouts, which began in 1992, have grown into a popular stop for pilots who want to visit Sporty's headquarters at Clermont County Airport.
