Harvey Airfield seeks to improve airport safety
AOPA has asked the Snohomish County Council in Washington state to support proposed safety improvements to the runway configuration at Harvey Airfield. If the county approves the proposal, the new configuration would give pilots 200 more feet of usable runway. "The safety of all pilots and passengers using the airport, as well as local community members living near the airport, will be enhanced by these airport improvements," wrote AOPA Vice President of Airports Bill Dunn in a letter to the council. AOPA pointed out that the privately owned, public-use airport is one of the busiest general aviation airports in the region and serves as a reliever for Seattle-Tacoma International. According to the Washington State Department of Transportation Aviation Division's 2001 Aviation Forecast and Economic Analysis Study, the airport annually supports more than 446 jobs, $7.5 million in labor earnings, and more than $22.2 million in economic activity.
