What if you had more than 5,000 hours' worth of time logged but had never flown an aircraft? AOPA member Stephen Dines shares with AOPA that his friend and Project Pilot Student Barry Schatz was once only a "literary pilot." He could tell you almost everything you wanted to know about airplanes and aviation history, but he didn't know how to fly. Thanks to Dines mentoring Schatz through AOPA Project Pilot, he accomplished his first solo last October. "I was able to see my friend complete a major milestone," said Dines. We want to know about the special bond between you and your Mentor or Student. Send us your videos, photos, or personal stories. You could be featured in AOPA ePilot, AOPA Pilot, or in the AOPA Project Pilot photo gallery.
