Proposed fees at Frederick a wrong move, AOPA says
The city of Frederick, Maryland, is considering imposing landing fees on transient aircraft at Frederick Municipal Airport, AOPA's home field. AOPA has been in contact with city officials to express its strong opposition to the fees.
"We face the same threats at Frederick that tenants at airports across the country face," said Bill Dunn, AOPA vice president of airports.
The association has pointed out that such a fee would dramatically reduce the number of transient aircraft flying into Frederick Municipal, which brings in $60 million to the community each year, according to the Maryland Aviation Administration. That amount would drop with the loss of transient pilots. AOPA is also concerned that the fee could spread to based pilots later.
AOPA encourages members to voice their opposition to the fees during a public meeting at 7 p.m. on Thursday, May 17, at Frederick City Hall.
