CBP extends comment period on customs proposal

U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) has reversed course and granted AOPA's request for more time for pilots to comment on proposed rules that would require pilots to file a passenger manifest over the Internet before any flight that crosses a U.S. border.

Pilots now have until Dec. 4 to tell CBP how the proposal would affect their ability to fly to and from locations outside the United States.

CBP had originally denied AOPA's comment extension request on Oct. 31. But AOPA staff has met with key security officials in the executive branch and in Congress to explain the importance of the issue to pilots.
