AOPA prevents flight restriction over ecological reserves

When AOPA told the California Fish and Game Commission that pilots don't need more airspace restrictions, they listened. At a meeting on Nov. 2, the commission voted not to prohibit aircraft operations within any ecological reserve. The commission specifically referenced AOPA's argument that only the FAA may impose airspace limitations. AOPA had opposed the proposed change to the California Code of Regulations because it would have preempted the FAA's regulation of U.S. airspace by banning all overflights, except for law enforcement and habitat management flights, of areas designated as an ecological reserve.
