City to take charge of Palo Alto Airport

City to take charge of Palo Alto Airport

The Palo Alto City Council voted Nov. 13 to begin the process of taking back operation of Palo Alto Airport from Santa Clara County. County officials have been operating the airport under a lease agreement but have stopped investing heavily in the facility. The city doesn't want the airport to fall into disrepair and plans to terminate the lease before it expires in 2017. AOPA has been working with Airport Support Network volunteer Bob Lenox to ensure the reliever airport's viability. Lenox, local pilots, and the Palo Alto Airport Working Group have banded together to make this happen. "This is the first step in a long process," said Bill Dunn, AOPA vice president of airports. "We'll be working with Bob and local officials every step of the way."
