Waynesville Regional open to IFR traffic again
When the military issued a notam closing Waynesville Regional Airport in Fort Leonard Wood, Mo., to general aviation IFR traffic, the AOPA Airport Support Network volunteer at the field immediately contacted AOPA. And AOPA got results: After working with the FAA and the Army, the military-civilian joint-use field reopened to GA pilots flying IFR. Previously, the Army ceased nearby operations in restricted areas to allow IFR operations at the airport. Because it took about 30 minutes to open and close the restricted areas, the military wanted to terminate all IFR operations—except airline—when the ranges were active. Now the Army is checking into several alternatives to mitigate the impact on GA and the military.
