General aviation may have escaped any new sales and use tax extension. The Michigan House of Representatives passed the state budget, excluding provisions that would have extended Michigan's sales and use tax to include aviation services. Gov. Jennifer M. Granholm has signed a package of revenues and reforms, along with a 30-day continuation budget. AOPA opposed these new taxes and urged members to tell their state legislators to keep aviation exempt from any new tax or tax increase. Until the final budget is approved, AOPA will continue pressing for exemptions for aviation services.
