AOPA selected to help protect GA, Alaska frontier

AOPA's Alaska Regional Representative, Tom George, was selected to represent general aviation users as one of 12 members to be appointed to the Denali National Park and Preserve Overflights Advisory Council.
"We are pleased that the National Park Service recognizes the need to preserve GA access to backcountry areas of the park," said Andy Cebula, AOPA executive vice president of government affairs. "AOPA looks forward to working with other Alaska users and the National Park Service during this process."
In support of the National Park Service Backcountry Management Plan, the council is to provide recommendations to the service on mitigating impacts from aircraft overflights at Denali. According to the plan, air travel is an important means of access for backcountry users.
AOPA supported the establishment of the committee in order to ensure continued GA access to the park. The group will develop voluntary measures for assuring the safety of passengers, pilots, and mountaineers, while continuing to allow GA overflights and access to the park.
