Tiedown fees at Republic Airport in Farmingdale, N.Y., haven't changed for 15 years. After a year and a half of meeting with tenants, airport businesses, and the local government, airport management wants to increase the fee nearly $40 a month by April 1, 2008. AOPA thinks that's too much, too fast, and has requested that the hike, which would change charges from $105 a month to $140, be implemented over a longer period of time. AOPA also recommended that the airport's fees be reviewed every three to five years to keep them in line with inflation and bring in needed revenue without imposing a sudden financial burden on pilots.
