State governments have an enormous impact on the health and vitality of general aviation. That’s why AOPA helped sponsor the South Carolina Aviation Association’s annual legislative breakfast April 2. The event, attended by 62 members of the state legislature, gave lawmakers an opportunity to learn more about the value of aviation—an industry that employs more than 65,500 people and generates more than $4.3 billion in economic activity for South Carolina. “Events like this help focus legislators’ attention on aviation issues and remind them that fostering an aviation-friendly environment is good for all of their constituents, not just pilots,” said AOPA Regional Representative Bob Minter, who participated in the event and took the opportunity to build a case for increased airport funding for the state’s airports.
