Local advocates are vital, AOPA says at aviation conference

AOPA is always available to help, but local pilots, airport managers, and business owners are the best advocates for any airport.

That was the message Greg Pecoraro, AOPA vice president of regional affairs, delivered during a presentation at the Iowa Aviation Conference in Des Moines on April 24.

“We are always working to protect airports, and sometimes having the backing of an organization that’s 414,000 pilots strong can make the difference,” Pecoraro said. “But it’s just as important to show local officials that members of the community care about the airport.”

Pecoraro also told the audience about the many tools AOPA offers to help communities protect their airports, including the Airport Support Network and online resources, including the new Participating in the Planning Process handbook.

If you want to get more involved in protecting your airport, consider becoming an AOPA Airport Support Network volunteer.
