Expect changing notams for gypsy moth spraying

Gypsy moths are proving to be a hazard to more than just trees in Pennsylvania. Extensive spraying to control the pests also could prove a hazard to aircraft. Fourteen aircraft, both airplanes and helicopters, will be spraying pesticides from sunrise to sunset, seven days a week, throughout May. Flights will be conducted between 500 feet and 1,500 feet agl during calm VFR conditions. Notams will be issued to advise pilots when and where the spraying is taking place, so be sure to check with flight service before launching.
