Seattle pilots Mark Schoening and Doug DeVries along with their team recently completed a 10,000-mile circumnavigation of Canada via the famed Northwest Passage. Flying de Havilland Beavers on straight floats, the team was able to access remote Arctic lakes and film the breathtaking beauty of the surrounding wilderness in search of the perpetually shifting magnetic North Pole.
During their 45-day journey, which began on Aug. 2, 2008, they withstood rough seas, white-capped landing areas, and bone-chilling wet weather to discover magnificent icebergs, impressive polar bears, and leaping beluga whales along the way.
An experienced film crew, including Oscar-nominated director of photography Eric Thierman, captured the adventure in high-definition for a documentary.
