Avidyne MLX770 approved for GA fleet

Satellite weather has become essential equipment for many U.S. pilots—and Avidyne’s MLX770 two-way datalink transceiver is meant to deliver similar capabilities overseas. Avidyne announced that it has received U.S. and European regulatory approval to install its Iridium-based transceivers in about 700 GA aircraft ranging from piston singles to pressurized turboprops.

“These (supplemental type certificate) approvals provide a basis for our dealers to perform installations of the MLX770 in a wide variety of GA aircraft,” said Patrick Herguth, chief operating officer at Avidyne. “Pilots worldwide will now begin to benefit from the safety enhancing strategic datalink capability of the MLX770.”

The MLX770 is designed to interface with Avidyne’s EX500 and Entegra systems and brings worldwide datlink weather to the GA market. The MLX770 has a retail price of $11,995, and subscription fees are estimated at $70 to $120 a month.
