AOPA is always looking for opportunities to share the message of general aviation's importance, and recently, the New Mexico Airport Managers Association’s (NMAMA) Legislators Day provided the ideal forum to remind lawmakers of GA's role in the state's transportation system and its impact on the state’s economy. GA contributes $761 million annually to the state, which is home to more than 5,000 pilots, 3,375 GA aircraft, and 59 public-use airports.
At the invitation of NMAMA, AOPA Regional Representative Shelly deZavallos joined representatives from EAA, the Civil Air Patrol, NBAA, Angel Flight, and other important aviation groups at the Santa Fe event to discuss the state of GA with New Mexico lawmakers.
DeZevallos met with several legislators, including Rep. Thomas Anderson, an aviator and AOPA member.
“The NMAMA event was a great opportunity to bring all of these aviation organizations together with state legislators under one roof to discuss a positive way forward for GA in New Mexico,” deZevallos said. “It also occurred at an opportune time, with the upcoming launch of AOPA’s GA Serves America campaign. We will continue to avail ourselves of such forums in the southwest to promote GA interests.”
