October's airline pilot hiring numbers reflect the continuing struggles experienced by U.S. carriers in spite of a drop in fuel prices, according to Atlanta-based AIR, Inc.. There were 276 pilots hired in October, bringing the year-to-date total to 6,261. The number of pilots on furlough rose from 3,867 in September to 4,052 in October; the number of layoffs rose from 1,903 to 1,915.
