Editor at Large Tom Horne headed south to Brazil to fly Embraer’s new Phenom 100, braving the winter rains in São José dos Campos. Horne flew the number-one prototype for two solid IMC days, really getting a feel for the aircraft, even though the prototype was bare bones and the weather was awful. Later he was given a tour of the Phenom completion center in Gavião Peixoto. There he saw a newly completed airplane and its roomy, stylish interior. Come to Brazil with Horne and fly the Phenom 100 in this online video. www.aopa.org/pilot (keyword: Lean of Peak)
Associate Editor Ian J. Twombly is just like any other red-blooded pilot; give him an aircraft to fly—any aircraft—and he’ll fall in love. That’s certainly the case as Twombly tries the Lockwood-designed AirCam on for size. That may sound like an odd turn of phrase for flying an airplane, but the AirCam truly is an airplane a pilot “wears.” See the incredible bird’s-eye view and experience the sensory overload one gets when piloting this unusual aircraft in an online video shot over the beautiful Chesapeake Bay in Maryland and Virginia. www.aopa.org/pilot (keyword: AirCam flight)
General aviation helps to protect the environment by flying myriad missions. These wildly diverse assignments include tracking rare wildlife, helping NASA study global warming, and taking journalists aloft to photograph environmental disasters. In this online video, watch as volunteer pilots take their aircraft into remote regions of the country to help save and preserve the planet. www.aopa.org/pilot (keyword: Environmental air force)
Flying Friendly, an AOPA-produced video, was distributed to hundreds of airport managers and FBOs throughout the country in 2001. The video demonstrated how airport managers can more effectively defend airports from anti-airport factions. Flying Friendly also demonstrates pilot techniques that will help minimize an airplane’s noise footprint. The video has recently been updated and is now available on AOPA Online. www.aopa.org/pilot (keyword: Flying friendly)
