Weather Underground, a comprehensive weather Web site known for its high-quality, interactive Doppler radar imagery, has just added imagery from all 45 of the nation’s Terminal Doppler Weather Radar (TDWR) stations to its offerings.
TDWR imagery gives finer resolution and better accuracy of radar details. Wind patterns within storm cells and precipitation shields are more discernible, as is wind shear and tornadic vortex signatures (TVSs). TVSs are marked with purple triangles; hail signatures are called out with yellow squares on Weather Underground. Greater accuracy is also promised for depictions of rainfall rates.
You’ll see the original Nexrad stations as white crosses, with the new TDWR sites shown as yellow crosses. Click on the cross nearest you for a look at the radar situation. To customize the view for a look at advanced, interactive elements, click on the vertical bar at the left of the image entitled “Advanced radar types.”
