“More than 125 events are scheduled for this year’s International Young Eagles Day”
A lifelong love of flying starts with a single flight. On June 13, thousands of kids will get a chance to fly as part of EAA's sixteenth annual International Young Eagles Day.
The Young Eagles program provides free flights to young aviation enthusiasts, many of whom have never flown before. International Young Eagles Day is the most active flying day for the year-round program, which has flown nearly 1.5 million young people since 1992.
“Many children equate flying with the airlines. Through Young Eagles we can show them the unique view of their world from a few thousand feet up, to give them a new perspective on their community. We also want to open their eyes to the possibilities aviation can provide, either as a career or recreational pursuit,” said Steve Buss, Young Eagles executive director. More than 125 events are scheduled for this year’s International Young Eagles Day, Buss said.
At the events, young people ages 8 through 17 will be able to experience the excitement of flying, riding in general aviation aircraft ranging from vintage biplanes to the newest airplanes. Participants’ names and flight information will be entered into the “World’s Largest Logbook,” on display at the EAA AirVenture Museum in Oshkosh, Wis.
This year, new Young Eagles will also receive a custom Young Eagles logbook and free access to Sporty’s Complete Pilot Training Course, courtesy of Sporty’s “Next Step”.
More than 42,000 volunteer EAA-member pilots and 50,000 ground volunteers make the Young Eagles program possible. Check the Young Eagles calendar of events to find an event near you.
