StartPac lithium starting units unveiled

Startpac's LI2000QC - a compact, portable lithium ion starting unit StartPac, manufacturer of portable starting units for the aviation, railroad, and construction industries, announced two new products Nov. 6 at AOPA Aviation Summit in Tampa, Fla.

The LI2000QC is a compact, portable lithium ion starting unit designed for small- to medium-sized turbine engines. It weighs 30 pounds and is a full 28VDC battery pack. The LI2800QC weighs 46 pounds and is designed for all electrically started turbine engines.

The lithium units provide the same power as lead-acid batteries but are lighter and smaller, said Eve Storm, vice president of operations. Lithium batteries have twice the battery life of lead-acid batteries and can be left in a completely discharged state without causing damage, she said.
