21 days and counting: AOPA Day at Sun 'n Fun is coming!

Mar. 26, 2004 - Springtime! The famous cherry blossoms in the nation's capital are about to burst forth. So are the aircraft that have sat dormant in their hangars all winter long. And down in Lakeland, Florida, they're getting ready for the first-ever AOPA Day at the Sun 'n Fun Fly-In. From the moment AOPA members approach the entrance gate on Friday, April 16, and get $5 off admission, they'll know they're in for a special day.
"This is the first time in Sun 'n Fun's history that a day has been set aside to honor a single organization," said AOPA President Phil Boyer, "and we sincerely appreciate this wonderful tribute to our more than 400,000 members."
AOPA Day kicks off the evening before, on Thursday, April 15, when Boyer will host a Pilot Town Meeting at the Florida Air Museum Pavilion, adjacent to Sun 'n Fun's home airfield, Lakeland Linder Regional Airport (LAL).
On Friday, the first 5,000 members to the big yellow AOPA tent, located right next to the Gifts of Flight shop, will receive a free CD-ROM containing AOPA's acclaimed Real-Time Flight Planner and electronic Airport Directory. AOPA will hold hourly prize drawings.
Barring bad weather or unforeseen complications, the grand prize in this year's Win-A-Twin Sweepstakes will be parked right outside the tent, sporting a brand-new custom paint job applied by KD Aviation. Anyone who joins or renews membership in AOPA or refers a new member during Sun 'n Fun or throughout 2004 is automatically entered in the sweepstakes ( complete rules, eligibility requirements, and alternate methods of entry are available online). AOPA staff members will be on hand throughout Sun 'n Fun to take membership applications and answer questions about the many benefits of joining AOPA.
