May 14, 2004 - AOPA's 14th annual Fly-In and Open House is just around the corner (Saturday, June 5), and visitors stand a good chance of going home with some great prizes.
Everyone who joins, renews, or verifies their member record will automatically be entered to win one of Sporty's innovative new Air Scan V desktop AM/FM/aviation band radios. AOPA will give away four during the Fly-In. AOPA Pilot will hold hourly drawings for AOPA Pilot polo shirts. And there'll be great giveaways just about everywhere you look (sorry, the planes on the ramp aren't included!).
"The Fly-In is a lot of fun for AOPA staff," said AOPA President Phil Boyer. It gives us all the chance to make face-to-face connections with our members."
The AOPA Fly-In and Open House is free and open to all, pilots, aviation enthusiasts, even those who are just curious. It all gets under way at 8:30 a.m. and runs until 5 p.m.
Visitors will have their choice of more than a dozen hours of seminars, including a Q-and-A session with Phil Boyer, Rod Machado's hilarious hangar-flying session, and a number of the AOPA Air Safety Foundation's famous safety seminars.
Some three dozen aircraft will fill the static display on AOPA's ramp, just outside of the headquarters building. And the place of pride is reserved for the grand prize in AOPA's 2004 Win-A-Twin Sweepstakes, a better-than-new 1965 Piper Twin Comanche. Joining or renewing membership in AOPA during Fly-In or at any other time during 2004 automatically enters you in the sweepstakes. Behind the AOPA headquarters building, more than 100 vendor exhibits will be on display under the big top tent - everything from aviation souvenirs to big-ticket items like engines and propellers.
Local vendors will have a variety of food and drinks for sale in the parking lot behind the headquarters building as well.
Arrival procedures and driving directions are already available online, so start planning your visit now.
